Volunteers help to keep the Carletonville SPCA going

They still need more help to, amongst other things, fix up kennels.

In just a few months the face of the Carletonville SPCA has started to change dramatically.

Gone are many of the drab-looking old buildings. Instead, they have been painted in various bright colours. Even the organisation’s hospital-wing now boasts with a light purple wall with bright pink hearts and paws on the side.

The biggest change is at the various kennel blocks. Many of them, like the block for small dogs, have been fixed, painted and equipped with a new type of fencing that does not only look better, but is safer for the animals as well.

According to the deputy chairperson of the SPCA’s governing body, Phillip Kramer, there is still a lot of work that must be done within the next few months.

“We still need building equipment, such as bricks, cement, corrugated iron sheeting, steel and corrugated iron fastening screws,” he says.

Kramer notes that most of the work at the kennels was done by their group of dedicated volunteers: Duncan du Plessis, Annelie Pienaar, Schandré Eloff, Abigail Janse van Vuuren, Sammy Janse van Vuuren, Brandon Pretorius and Dané Moolman. They also assist permanent staff with other necessary tasks such as washing the bedding for the animals.

“I also want to thank everyone else who helped, as well as our permanent staff. Without these people there will be no SPCA,” he added.

Anyone who wants to volunteer or assist in any other way, can contact the SPCA on 018 788 6262.
