Taxi owner gunned down in Khutsong Extension 5

Taxi violence flared up in our area again.

The violence in the local minibus-taxi industry once more flared up majorly this past week.

The peace in a street in the 80s of Khutsong Ext 5 was shattered on the morning of July 30. A 62-year-old taxi owner of the Carletonville Local and Long Distance Taxi Association (CALLTA) was walking near Thabiso Tuck Shop when men started shooting at him allegedly with an AK47 and 9mm pistol.

They shot the taxi owner several times and he collapsed in the street.

As far as could be determined there had been another attempt on the same man’s life the previous week, but he had not reported it to the South African Police Service.

The case is now being investigated by the police’s special taxi violence unit.
