A couple from Khutsong Extension 5 had a close call when they were attacked in their home last weekend.
This incident happened in Hector Petersen Street on July 6.
The 28-year-old victim and her boyfriend were asleep in their room when they were alerted by a noise outside at approximately 01:15. They ran to the kitchen and saw that two men were trying to kick open the door.
The couple desperately blocked the door, but heard the thugs break open the living room door soon after. Upon entry, the two Sotho-speaking assailants threatened to kill them.
The boyfriend managed to escape and tried to find help, while his girlfriend frantically tried to phone for assistance. She, however, dropped her phone when one of the thugs, a short, armed man, stormed in. The woman quickly ran to her bedroom and blocked the door with a washing machine.
She anxiously screamed for help while inside the room.
The attackers demanded money, but soon fled the scene after the woman told them that she did not have any money.
The suspects stole the phone that she dropped while fleeing to her room.
