Spaza shop owner murdered

It looks like he might have been ambushed.

The owner of a spaza shop in the area was murdered this week.

The incident took place in the Rooipoort informal housing area in the early hours of Tuesday 2 July.

The deceased, a 39-year-old Ethiopian national, ran his shop from the shack where he stays close to the Rooipoort Primary Farm School.

His landlady went to investigate after she heard fighting at his home at approximately 02:00. She discovered the man’s body on the ground in the doorway to his home.

It seems as if the victim ha either been ambushed just as he arrived home, or had been murdered after he opened his door for his attacker.

Although she called an ambulance and the police, the deceased had already passed away due to a gunshot wound.

The police in Carletonville are investigating a murder case following the incident.
