Hijackers drop victim in North West

"The best way to avoid such crimes is to not pick up hitchhikers," say the police.

A group of criminals hijacked a man and then dropped him in our neighbouring province.

The police in Potchefstroom are investigating a hijacking case after this crime took place on Wednesday 12 June.

The motorist stopped his silver Land Rover at the bridge at Khutsong Extension 5 to pick up hitchhikers at about 18:00. He was on his way from Carletonville to Potchefstroom when he picked up the three men.

As the came close to Boskop Dam, the three men asked whether they could get off. The driver stopped, but instead of climbing out, the hitchhikers pulled out firearms.

They tied his hands behind his back and drive with him for some time before dropping him off in the Potchefstroom area. They sped off with his vehicle.
