Mothers celebrate special day

The event gave women and mothers the respect they deserve.

Mothers from around Merafong gathered at Carletonville Lapa to celebrate Mother’s Day on Saturday, 11 April.

Mrs Violet Moduenyane and Mrs Engrid Makgutle arranged the event, providing a platform for mothers and daughters to bond and bridge the gap between them. The guests, wearing floral with straw hats and gloves, made their grand entrance on the red carpet.

Senior Pastor Maserame Mabitle opened the proceedings and later discussed how she led the men and women of her church. Mrs Masechaba Sepuru shared the word of God before the chairperson of the Black Ladies Organization, Mrs Blessing Ramphomane, talked about her long and successful marriage and discussed financial empowerment through entrepreneurship. The poet and motivational speaker, Mr Jabulani Wesizwe, had encouraging words for the mothers before the radio presenter and emcee, Mrs Mamosala Lerata, spoke briefly about the challenges she faced in raising her disabled child.

A fun session followed, including games, candle lighting and questionnaires before local artists like Sis T, Tlotli Violet, Julie T and Vibration Taylor provided live entertainment. After that, the women enjoyed group dancing for physical exercise. The organisers arranged dinner and refreshments during the evening’s activities.

Per the theme, the four best-dressed mothers won prizes like beauty spa treatments from The House of Julie T and Blessings Spa.

The mothers described the event as a therapeutic and spiritual occasion, emphasising prayer as a necessity for women to remain strong through life’s challenges.

The organisers say the event played a crucial role in uniting Merafong women and that such activities are instrumental in developing and growing the area.

“We feel we achieved our goals – a successful event, a good time, and mended relationships,” reflected one. “The women had a safe space to share their stories and experiences freely while comforting and strengthening each other to cope with their struggles.”

The women donated for a charity giveaway on Sunday (Mother’s Day), visiting mothers at the Carletonville Hospital. The organisers will host a prayer meeting at the Khutsong bridge soon. They also announced an upcoming trip to Maboneng in Johannesburg for Youth Day, following the recent one to Mandela House on Freedom Day. They also expressed gratitude for the support and thanked the young team who helped make everything possible.
