Merafong says financial system will be back online in May

The municipality says this massive problem will soon be resolved.

The Merafong City Local Municipality says it is in the process of restoring its financial system.

Residents and other clients have been stranded since the municipality’s financial system went down on 31 December.

The system has been offline since then, due to a financial dispute between the municipality and the previous contractor.

When asked about the matter, the municipal marketing and communications manager, Mr Temba Fezani, said they expected to sort the issue out soon.

“The municipality has appointed CCG Systems to provide the service. They are busy with the process and anticipate that the financial system will be up and running by May,” says Fezani.

However, the municipality did not address the public’s concerns that they might have to pay interest on the outstanding accounts that many people and businesses could not pay without an invoice.
