Although many residents hitchhike on the R500 between Carletonville and Fochville, last week, an incident showed again that this practice is unsafe.
The incident happened on Wednesday, 27 March.
The 33-year-old resident was hitchhiking near Fountain Private Hospital at about 14:45 when a maroon-coloured vehicle stopped by him.
Instead of offering him a lift, the two occupants pointed firearms at the man.
They forced him to hand over all his money, shoes and cell phone before speeding off.
Fortunately, they did not injure the victim and he went to the police.
