Welverdiend residents clean up themselves

This action also ensures that there are fewer hiding places for criminals.

A group of concerned Welverdiend residents decided to clean up their town.

According to Mr Theuns de Vos, they started cleaning up themselves because they never got help from the municipality.

“We did this because the criminals hide in the long grass, and we, as the community watch, have to deal with the problems,” says De Vos.

The residents cleaned 12th Avenue and 15th Street on 11 March and proceeded to clean up 3rd Avenue, the CBD, and the area around it last week.

De Vos says it frustrated the community to see that, as they were cleaning the CBD, government community workers in orange overalls sat or stood around on the same street without lifting a finger to help them.

These people were reportedly waiting for equipment.

De Vos says other community members are welcome to join their action.

Numerous residents rolled up their sleeves to help clean up the Welverdiend CBD and adjacent streets.
