Water leaks ignored

Water leaks in Carletonville are not being attended to.

The municipality has ignored water leaks next to one of the main routes through Carletonville.

Motorists driving down Agnew Road from the direction of the P111 cannot miss water leaking from the sidewalk just before the four-way stop at Kaolin Street.

The grass around the leak is bright green, in contrast to the yellowing grass on the rest of the sidewalk.

As the stormwater drain has collapsed and is blocked, water from the leak streams onto the street and over the crossing instead of emptying into the drain.

Meanwhile, there is another big leak as you turn the corner onto Kaolin Street. The grass is also bright green, and although the top of the stormwater drain has collapsed, the water flows into it.

“These leaks have been there for years. We don’t know what the municipality does with their money and why they don’t fix it,” a bystander remarked.

This older part of Carletonville is known for sinkhole development, which could be caused by such ongoing leaks.
The Herald took the issue to the municipality on Monday, but they did not respond.

Another water leak onto Kaolin Street is just around the corner.
