Watch out for attackers in Khutsong

Police warns that those who want to go out must rather be safe than sorry.

The police in Khutsong warn that residents must take precautions not to fall prey to criminals if they want to go out relaxing.

According to the Station Commander, Lt-Col Ockie Brits, there has been an increase in attacks on people on their way home from drinking places.

“Some of these criminals even seem to wait at the Ext 5 bridge for residents coming home after they went drinking in Carletonville. The criminals watch when they get off their taxi and then starts to follow them,” says Brits.

The robbers, who usually operate in groups of three to four and are armed with knives or firearms, then rob the residents of their cellphones and money.

The police say that criminals have also started to follow and attack residents walking home after drinking in Xhosa Section, Extension 3 and Sonderwater.

Residents who do want to go out are advised to rather walk in groups and to make sure that they get home before midnight.
