Potholes a huge danger

Potholes on the main route through Welverdiend cause danger for motorists and residents.

Residents of Welverdiend living on the main route through the town fear their lives may be in danger due to the severe potholes in the street.

The main route through Welverdiend has been in a terrible state for years. To a large degree, the problems stem from the many big trucks that often drive through the town to and from the N14 towards Ventersdorp.

Residents near this road complain of many big potholes next to their yards. The problem is particularly bad in the area of 12th Avenue.

“You can hear the trucks coming, braking and swerving out for the potholes at night,” one of the residents complained this week.

The residents fear a truck might end up in a residential yard if the driver loses control. On the other hand, the potholes help slow the speeding trucks down on the road.

The situation has prompted the residents to call for the municipality to erect speed bumps.

The Herald took the issues to the municipality on Tuesday. By printing time no response was received from their new communications and marketing manager, Mr Temba Fezani.
