Issues in Fochville street

Motorists and pedestrians should be vigilant on Bosman Street in Fochville.

“There is a problem with the municipal sewage system on Bosman Street. We have reported it since Thursday, but nothing happened. What must we do to get the municipality to do their work?” an anonymous resident lamented on social media this week.
By Monday, a maintenance hole on the sidewalk in front of No. 80 had overflowed. Dry sewage caked the sidewalk, and the trail of the spillage ran several metres down the street.
To make matters worse, the square manhole brimming with sewage had no cover. This is particularly dangerous as it is just down the street from Losberg Primary School, and schoolchildren or other pedestrians could fall into it.
Not only pedestrians must be careful on Bosman Street, however. Motorists must be wary of the many potholes in the street next to the school.
The worst damage is at the Benadie Street intersection, however. Some potholes are so deep that they would damage almost any vehicle of an unsuspecting driver. Very little is left of the tarred surface in the middle of the crossing, and there is a ditch on one side.
The Herald reported the issues to the Merafong City Local Municipality on Tuesday and asked when they would attend to them.
“We will investigate and resolve the matter,” the municipal spokesperson said about the open manhole.
“Teams are currently on the ground, fixing potholes on all municipal roads, prioritising the main routes. Fochville town, including Bosman Street, will be done on Thursday, 19 August 2024,” the municipality said regarding the potholes.
