Merafong’s new tariff increases

The new tariffs will come into effect at the start of the new municipal financial year on 1 July.

Water services will increase by eight per cent, and refuse removal, sewerage services, and sundry services by six per cent.
Electricity tariffs will increase by 11,7 per cent.
Property rates will increase by four per cent and mine property rates by five per cent. A DA councillor, Mr Blackie Zwart, opposed the new tariff increases. Another councillor from this political party, Mr Carlos Rebelo, seconded him, arguing that ratepayers are already not getting value for money from the municipality. He complained that the municipality does not provide feedback on why it does not render services. The FF Plus then also opposed the increased budget. The council noted the opposition.
