House robbers strike twice

A Welverdiend woman bravely fought off house robbers during one of two such violent crimes in our area this week.

The Carletonville police say the homeowner was asleep in her bedroom in the early hours of Friday, 8 July.
Something woke her up at approximately 03:00. She looked up and saw her bedroom door opening.
At first, the woman thought it was her mentally-ill brother but realised something was amiss when the door did not move further. “Who is it?” she asked.
Suddenly, an unknown man jumped forward and pulled the blankets from her bed. He grabbed her cell phone lying next to her and joined his accomplice at the door.
The woman jumped up and tried to grab her phone, but the man pulled out a firearm and shot her in the shoulder.
The criminals then fled from the house. The woman chased them through the dining room door and saw one of them jump over the wall.
She grabbed the other, who was still in the yard, and started wrestling with him.
Because she was injured, the thug got free and ran away.
Besides the cell phone, they had also stolen the radio from her car.
The woman’s neighbour took her to Fountain Private Hospital after the incident.
The police say another house robbery took place in Aster Drive in Carletonville on 6 July.
The resident was leaving for work and went outside at approximately 18:45. He wanted to start his car and warm it up before driving.
Two unknown men suddenly walked into his yard and said they were looking for rooms to rent.
“This house belongs to the mine; I cannot rent rooms out,” the resident told them. The men walked away as if to leave but soon returned with four accomplices.
Two of the suspects pulled out handguns. “Do not make a noise, or we will kill you,” they threatened.
The thugs forced the resident into his sitting room, tied him up with shoelaces and made him look down. They then took his bank card and Samsung cell phone.
They searched the victim’s pockets and took the keys to his silver Toyota Corolla parked outside.
“Where is your other vehicle?” the thugs asked.
When the man said he did not have another vehicle, they went out and left him there.
The resident struggled to free himself until about 20:00. When he went out, he saw the criminals had fled in his Corolla. Money, work clothes and the keys to his other vehicle, a Toyota bakkie parked at his workplace, were in the car.
