House robbers kidnap residents

Two local residents had an Easter weekend they would rather want to forget.

The Carletonville police say the people were at home in Khutsong Extension 5 when the incident happened on Good Friday, 15 April. There is also a liquor store on the premises.
Three Sotho-speaking men arrived at the home at approximately 23:00.
The store owner told them the shop was closed because it was too late for sales. However, the men continued nagging and were even prepared to pay R30 for a bottle of beer. When the owner eventually gave in and allowed them into the store, four more men rushed in.
All of them pulled out firearms and demanded money. They robbed the residents of their cell phones, grabbed the owner and a family member and forced them into a car.
They drove them to the Mohalieshoek informal settlement between Carletonville and Fochville. The victims were only released after their families had paid a ransom.
