Carletonville athlete excels again

A Carletonville athlete excelled at the ASA Track and Field National Championships last weekend.

The event took place at the NWU McArthur Athletics Stadium in Potchefstroom between 31 March and 2 April.
Marceghlle Wakefield (15), a Grade 9 learner at Carletonville High School, participated in the 1,500 m boys’ u.16 event. A total of 33 athletes from across South Africa had qualified for this race.
Marceghlle, also a member of the Smithathlons Athletics Club in Carletonville, came second overall in the heats, in a time of 4:16:47, automatically qualifying for the finals. In the 1,500 m finals, Marceghlle ran a new personal best time of 4:02:70, securing his position as the third best u.16 boys’ athlete in the country in this event.
As the youth and junior track and field season has ended, Marceghlle is preparing for the cross country season.
