According to unhappy residents and business owners, the Merafong City Local Municipality has only cleaned a small part of the street this season. They started cleaning a part of the traffic island but then left the work unfinished.
Since then, a resident has paid her gardener to clean a part of the traffic island in front of her house so, at least, the area around the property looks neat.
The municipality has also not cleared the long grass further along the roadside. The only areas that look neat are maintained by businesses in the area.
The Herald took the concerns to the municipality on Tuesday.
“The municipality’s Parks Section is currently working on a cleaning schedule. The first part was indeed cleaned, the other parts could not be cleaned on time due to the rain. The municipality will clean the other parts soon,” says the municipal spokesperson.
