Kidnappers grab teenager

Unbeknown to many residents, a drama played out in our area last week.

According to Carletonville police’s communication officer, WO Peter Masooa, the incident happened on Tuesday, 1 March. The 19-year-old victim had just stopped at his father’s house in Khutsong Extension 5 at about 19:30 when several unknown men stormed up to him. They jumped into his father’s silver Honda Civic with him and forced him into the back. They then drove toward the back of Deelkraal and left the car on a gravel road. The kidnappers then phoned the boy’s father and demanded money for his safe return. The teen’s father contacted the police and members of various units started searching for him. The police also used a helicopter, search and rescue dogs and tracker dogs in the search. At about 18:30 the next day, the kidnappers decided to abandon their plan and left the youngster by himself near Deelkraal as they ran away. He managed to get to the road to Carletonville to get help and was safely reunited with his father. Thanks to the police’s help, the father did pay any ransom. At the time of going to print, no one had been arrested in connection with the incident yet.
