127 suspects arrested over weekend

Police from all over the area, together with other law enforcement agencies, held a big operation in the Fochville and Wedela area last weekend.

The campaign, which started on Friday, 4 February and lasted until Sunday, focused on crime prevention, visiting liquor and second-hand goods outlets, roadblocks and tracing wanted suspects to make life difficult for criminals.
According to Captain Eddie Boboko, the operation focused on stop and searches to check for the transportation of stolen goods, stolen or hijacked vehicles, illegal firearms and drugs.
A total of 127 people were arrested during the action, 65 of them during an O Kae Molao operation from 19:30 on Saturday to 01:00 the next day.
Three people were arrested for attempted murder, business robbery and the possession of stolen firearms, among other things, A total of 34 drunken drivers were also nabbed, one of whom was caught after trying to resist arrest.
Other arrests were for drinking in public, dealing in liquor without a licence and the illegal possession of mine property.
Several people were also arrested for being in possession of drugs. Those arrested will soon appear in different magistrates’ courts in the district.
The West Rand District commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana welcomed the successes and applauded the SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies. He said they had committed themselves to continue protecting and making sure the community is safe and those who violate the law are brought to book and face the full might of the law.
He thanked the community members who are always there to assist the police with information that helps in the fight against crime and the apprehension of these criminals.
