Armed robbers strike businesses

Robbers caused huge losses in our area this week, proving, yet again, that serious crime in the Carletonville area is increasing.

According to the Carletonville police, personnel at the tuck shop of Slabbert Motors in Station Street were busy with routine tasks when three thugs walked in at about 20:40 on 20 January. They all pulled out firearms and demanded the money from the cash register.
They grabbed R2,500 in it and the three employees’ cell phones and then ran from the shop.
In another incident on the same day, the owner of a tuck shop in Khutsong Extension 5 was alone in his shop when he also became the victim of a robbery. A man, who had bought there before, came in and demanded a refund for things he had bought. When the owner re- fused, he first demanded to swipe his card for only R10, which is against the shop’s policy.
The man then took out a screwdriver and threatened the owner, before proceeding to take what he wanted.
In yet another incident, the owner of a tuck shop at Watersedge also became a crime victim when her business was targeted on 22 January. She was in the shop when ten men stormed in at about 21:30. All of them pulled out 9 mm pistols and demanded all the money. Al-though she handed over what was in the cash register, her tablet and cell phone, the thugs insisted that there was more money on the premises. They threatened her until she gave them every last cent, after which they ran away.
