‘Potholes will be repaired soon,’ says Merafong

This week, the Merafong City Local Municipality promised to fix the potholes in the area of Laerskool Dagbreek in Carletonville.

Residents living in the area of Chrome and Olivine street in Carletonville have complained for months about several big potholes at the T-junction of these streets. Many drivers use this junction at certain times of the day as it is next to Laerskool Dagbreek.
Although the situation was bad before, it has become steadily worse with the recent good rains in the area. When it rains, people could easily damage their vehicles in the obscured potholes.
Another issue is that there is currently only a stop sign on Olivine Street, even though this crossing carries a lot of traffic. At the opening and closing times of Laerskool Dagbreek, drivers in this street often have to wait very long or take chances when turning into Chrome Street.
The residents want a three-way stop at the intersection to help control the traffic flow.
The Herald took the issues to the Merafong City Local Municipality.
“Pothole patching will be done any time from today. The municipality expects a batch of materials to be delivered for the operation,” the municipal spokesperson said on Tuesday.
When asked about the traffic flow problems, the spokesperson said the municipality would first investigate during the reported times and then give recommendations.
