‘Road workers’ hijack delivery vehicle

A delivery went horribly wrong when men pretending to be roadworkers hijacked the driver in Carletonville this week.

According to the Carletonville police, the incident happened at about 09:30 on Monday, 22 November.
The complainant had just delivered the tyres to TBT Tyres in Annan Road and stopped at a red traffic light.
He noticed two men who appeared to be working on the road nearby.
Suddenly, one of them jumped up and ran to the driver’s door. He pulled out a firearm, pointed it at the driver and jumped into the vehicle, while his accomplice got in at the passenger’s side. They drove the driver to near the mines, where they pulled him out of the bakkie and forced him into a blue sedan.
They bound the driver with rope and pulled a beanie over his eyes.
The hijackers drove him around for some time before stopping to buy liquor, which they forced the driver to drink. They then searched him and took his cell phone and wallet.
The hijackers later dropped him off at some nearby bushes.
They fled with the white Isuzu bakkie he was driving, with the registration number KJZ 720 NW.
They also stole its white trailer, with the registration number DNT 349 NW, loaded with tyres.
The Carletonville police are investigating hijacking and kidnapping cases following the incident.
