The police in Potchefstroom have warned unsuspecting members of the community to exercise caution when responding to social media advertisements as criminals are coming up with ways to scam citizens. This stems from a fake Facebook employment advertisement that was circulated since the beginning of this month. 
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the advertisement invited people to apply for a vacant post at Witrand Hospital in Potchefstroom.
“As a result, unsuspecting members of the community showed interest and applied and were further contacted demanding cash from a man claiming to be the Head of Human Resource Management. It is alleged that the yet to be identified man refused to get cash payment and instead, instructed the applicants to pay him R3000.00 through money market facility.”
The public is therefore urged be vigilant during this period and to contact the nearest police station or relevant government department should they become suspicious of social media vacant posts advertisements and not to pay any money.”
