Another hitchhiker robbed

In the second such incident in the last few weeks, another hitchhiker was robbed of his belongings in the past week.

According to Carletonville police’s communication officer, WO Peter Masooa, the incident happened at around midday on 17 September.
The victim caught a lift with two men and a woman on the P111 into Carletonville.
While entering the town, the driver struck up a conversation with him. The hitchhiker told the driver he had a few errands to run in town, after which he had to catch a lift to Libanon too.
The driver stopped at the Caltex filling Station in Annan Road and promised to pick him up again later.
“You are lucky because we are also going to Libanon after this,” the driver told him.
When the hitchhiker returned after running his errands, the car was indeed waiting for him at the filling station.
However, they had just pulled off when the male passenger lifted his shirt to expose his firearm.
“Give us your bank card and pin,” he threatened the hitchhiker. The scared victim complied and they drove him to the Absa branch in Annan Road. The passenger got out and withdrew R4,000 from his account. They then drove him to Oberholzer and told him to get out near Build It.
