Ratepayer’s yard flooded with sewage

Despite a resident of Welverdiend dutifully paying his municipal accounts every month and trying to be civil to the officials handling his complaints, the municipality is not helping him to sort out his severe sewage leaks.

“The sewage started leaking into my yard on 6 June.
“I contacted Braam Nel and Ben van den Berg, who tried to help and sent several WhatsApps to the municipal call centre in July,” says Mr Ronald Skuce of No. 12, 5th Avenue in Welverdiend.
Skuce says he also called the municipality several times but to no avail.
“I tried to be civil with those guys but they just ignore you,” he complains.
Although a municipal worker came out to assess the situation once, nothing was done. The problem has since become worse. By this week, sewage was still streaming from the two maintenance holes in his yard.
“I’m at home every day and the stench is unbearable,” he laments.
Skuce cannot use a part of his yard because it is flooded with sewage. He fears that once the summer starts, the problems will get worse.
The Herald took the concerns to the Merafong City Local Municipality on Tuesday.
“The matter will be attended to as soon as possible,” a municipal spokesperson answered.
