New Covid-19 cases in Merafong dropping.

After more than a month of big increases in the number of residents infected with the coronavirus the numbers finally dropping to similar figures as before the start of the Third Wave. According to statistics released by the Gauteng Department of Health on Tuesday, 3 August, a total of 9,691 residents had been infected with the coronavirus by Tuesday, 27 July. Of them, 9,144 had recovered and 343 had died of Covid-19. The total increased by 166 in the past week, significantly lower than the increases of 337, 501, 660, 799 and 591 in the previous month. The recoveries in our area for the past week stood at 346, while only three residents died of Covid-19 over the same period. Elsewhere in the West Rand, 28,277 cases had been reported in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp area) by Tuesday. Of them, 26,907 had recovered and 746 had died. Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area) reported 13,913 cases, of which 13,228 had recovered and 484 had succumbed to the virus.
