According to the Carletonville police, the man’s body was found near Sibanye-Stillwater’s Masakhane 1 Shaft on 6 July. He had been viciously assaulted and died as a result of injuries sustained in the attack.
A note was left on the body that identified the man as a zama-zama and said he had been killed in a fight between him and his fellow illegal miners underground.
