The number of new coronavirus cases in the Merafong City Local Municipality area is increasing faster than during previous weeks.
According to statistics released by the Gauteng Department of Health earlier this afternoon, 16 new cases of the disease have been reported in Merafong during the past day.
This brings the total number of cases in our area to 5 316. Of them 211 patients have died while 5 021 have recovered.
Elsewhere in the West Rand, there were also 16 new cases in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp area), which brings their total to 12 722 cases. Of these 12 263 patients have recovered while 383 have died.
There were also seven new cases in Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area). A total of 7 052 coronavirus cases have so far been reported in this area. Of these patients 6 786 have recovered while 228 have died.
