New Corobrik factory a first on the continent

A new Corobrik factory at Driefontein is putting our area on the map.

According to the company, the new factory, Kwastina (“Home of the Brick”), will deliver its first products this month.

Both kilns will be in total production by November, with the official launch of the R800-million facility on the cards for year-end. Kwastina represents a significant change in the level of technology Corobrik is introducing.

It is fully automated, from mixing the raw materials to the end product. A major advantage is that it will easily meet larger-volume orders, especially for the major construction and infrastructure projects anticipated in the government’s R100-billion infrastructure fund. Believed to be the most techno- logically advanced and environmentally friendly brick manufacturing plant in Africa, it will slash manufacturing costs by 50 per cent, making it much more cost-effective for end-users.

In addition, it offers 70 per cent less gas consumption. Kwastina will be able to produce 100 million bricks a year. “Our new factory in Driefontein will create exciting possibilities for sustainability, efficiency and productivity,” comments the CEO, Nick Booth.
