Methodist doyenne passes away

Carletonville Methodist doyenne passes away.

Dorothy Magdalena Knoetze (nee Middleton) was born in Johannesburg on 9 December 1932. Known affectionately as “Dot”, she lived in Carletonville for 64 years, from 1957.

She was the longest surviving member of the local Methodist Church. Dot had five children, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Because of her open and loving heart, she also had many informally adopted children.

Dot was a full-time wife and mother until the passing of her husband, Andries, in 1979. Following this loss, she worked at Doves first and West Driefontein gold mine until 1996. Dot unconditionally loved those who crossed her path; her doors were always open to anyone for a chat and cup of tea. A devoted Christian, Dot served the Lord Jesus humbly and faithfully in the Carletonville community, with the Womens’ Auxiliary, the Helping Hands ladies and many others. She dwelt in her Bible and prayer and lived out her Christian discipleship in service to others, even in the last years of her life.

After a few weeks of illness due to her advanced age of 88 years, Dot went to her reward on the evening of Sunday, 14 March 2021.
