SAPS four still behind bars

The four Carletonville police members arrested in connection with murder and cable theft have still not received bail.

The suspects, Sgt Patrick Dithupe (41), Sgt Lawrence Mogodi (42), Sgt Refiloe Tshabadira (33) and Const. Akhona Mxoli (34) appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrates C Court in front of Magistrate Howard Raath on Friday, 12 March.

They did not receive bail and the case was postponed until tomorrow, 19 March, for a formal bail application.

The police members were arrested at the Carletonville police station on 4 March. The arrests stemmed from the murder of two zama-zamas next to the bridge in Khutsong Extension 5 on 11 February. The suspects were charged with two counts of murder, theft of copper cable and defeating the ends of justice.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is now investigating the case.
