Drug dealer in hot water

A suspected drug dealer ran into the long arm of the law in Wedela this week.

According to the communication officer of the police in Wedela, Sgt Reginald Motsamai Moshe, members of the branch were patrolling in the area at about 07:00 on Tuesday, 2 March when they received a tip-off about a man selling drugs at a house in town. They rushed there and found a man matching the description. He gave the police permission to search him and his living quarters. While searching the 34-year-old man and his room, the police found 26 resealable plastic packets containing dagga, 21 small transparent plastic bags containing “rock” cocaine and 96 small brown plastic bags containing nyaope. The street value of the confiscated drugs is R5,490. The suspect was immediately arrested and detained at the Fochville police station’s holding cells before appearing in court. “Drugs destroy the lives of adults and youths around Wedela. It also generates other crimes like burglary and crime against women and children. We urge the community to stay away from drugs and report those selling them to our community. We will do everything in our power to expose and arrest perpetrators,” says Moshe. The community is urged to report such criminal activity on the Crime Stop hotline, 0860010111. “Good work from our members,” said the district commissioner, Major-General Fred Kekana, after the arrest.
