According to the latest statistics released by the Gauteng department of health another patient from our area died from Covid-19 during the past day. This brings the death toll in our area from the disease to 47 people.
In the meantime there were also 51 new cases of people testing positive for the virus during the past day. This brings the total number of cases in the Merafong City Local municipal area to 3 665. A total of 3 275 of them have recovered.
There has also been an increase of 197 cases in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp-area), which brings their total to 10 366 (of which 8 942 have recovered and 253 have died) and an increase of 89 new cases in Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area), bringing the total number of cases in this area to 5 414 (of which 4 586 have recovered and 137 have died).
According to the Department of Health, everyone needs to be vigilant to stop the spread.
Avoid the “three Cs”, which are closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings. Always wear a mask, maintain physical distance, wash your hands regularly and clean frequently-touched surfaces.
