7 January: 60 new coronavirus cases in Merafong

There has been a large increase in the number of residents of the Merafong City municipal area who tested positive for the coronavirus during the past day.

According to figures released by the Gauteng department of health this afternoon, there are now 3 587 people who have tested positive for the disease in our area. This is 60 cases more than yesterday.

Of the total number 3 269 people have recovered.

One resident of our area died of Covid-19 during the past day, bringing our total death rate to 84.

In the meantime the total cases in Mogale City (the Krugersdorp area) have passed the 10 000 mark. There are now 10 068 positive cases, of which 8 825 have recovered. The cases in this area are 125 more than yesterday.

So far 5 239 people from Rand West City (the Randfontein and Westonaria area) have tested positive, of which 4 543 have recovered. There has been an increase of 106 cases in this area the past day.
