Keep your pets safe this festive season

The Carletonville SPCA is asking pet owners to keep their animals safe this festive season.

According to one of the SPCA’s inspectors, Mr DJ White, owners must make sure that a reliable person is looking after their pets if they go away over the holiday period. Their pets should have enough food and water and adequate shelter. Pet owners must also make sure that someone is with the animals on New Year’s Eve, in particular. Although it is illegal to shoot fireworks in residential areas, it does happen and could frighten pets so much that they injure themselves or even run away. Those who cannot find someone reliable to look after their pets could also let them board at the Carletonville SPCA.

The SPCA’s kennels will be open for most days over the festive season, but will be closed on 25, 26 and 27 December and 1 January 2021. On 24, 28, 29, 30 and 31 December, the kennels will only open from 08:00 to 12:00. They will open from 08:00 to 11:00 on 2 January. The kennels business hours will return to normal – from 09:00 to 16:00 – from 4 January. Meanwhile, lovely dogs, beautiful cats and adorable kittens at the SPCA are looking for someone to adopt them. For more information, call the SPCA at 018 788 6262. The kennels in Beerster Street are normally open from 09:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 11:00 on Saturdays.
