Detectives had noticed their white Peugeot near the Coronation- and Van Riebeeck Street intersection on 17 July. The suspects, Chukwidi Henry Phillip, from Nigeria, and Jim Allen, from Malawi, were arrested after trying to flee from the police. They threw a package of drugs out of their car window and the detectives found more in a house in Pafuri Street. The find of almost a million rands worth of drugs is suspected to be crystal meth.
Both men appeared in the Carletonville Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 24 July. The case was postponed until 1 August, when Allen’s bail application will be heard.
