No breathalysers for Merafong over Easter

The Merafong City Local Municipality says it will continue to draw the blood of people suspected to be driving under the influence of liquor this Easter.

The Minister of Transport, Blade Nzimande, recently launched a new breathalyser alcohol test at an event in KwaZulu-Natal, as part of the 2019 Easter road safety campaign. As part of the launch, Nzimande demonstrated the new Evidential Breathalyser Alcohol Test (EBAT) system which will be implemented on the country’s roads.
With this new system in mind, the Herald asked the municipality what method it would use to track down drunk drivers this Easter.
“The Merafong traffic department will still utilise the blood testing method during drunken driving arrests,” a spokesperson of the municipality says.
