Mother and son among five road deaths

A mother and son were killed in a fatal accident on the R500 road around 20:00 on Saturday, 27 June.

The woman’s husband was seriously injured. Four vehicles were involved in the accident that occurred near the entrance of Tau Tona mines. Karin Botes, her husband and their 20-year-old son, Tertius, were travelling in an Isuzu double cab. Both Karin and Tertius died on the scene. Her husband,
who was driving the vehicle, was taken to the hospital.

On Sunday night, 28 June two people were burnt beyond recognition when a truck and a vehicle collided on the N12. In another, less serious accident, a truck which was carrying wooden blocks on P111 road near East Driefontein overturned after the driver attempted to swerve for a vehicle on 25 June. Two people were injured and taken to the hospital. Two people died on the scene where two vehicles collided on the R500 next to the entrance of Western Deep Levels mine No.9 on 30 June. A third victim died in hospital and the driver of the second vehicle was arrested for drunken driving.

The cause of the accident is unknown.
