VANDERBIJLPARK. – It was once a ‘devil’s den’ in which violence was the solution of the association. The Civic Centre Taxi Association on Thursday redeemed itself when it hosted the launch of its medical aid.

Its primary purpose was to create a relationship between workers and employees on the subject of retirement and service. The launch was directed by the regional chairperson James Limo, who elaborated on the taxi business, saying its employees should start pulling toward becoming professional businessmen and businesswomen.

The taxi industry needs considerable transformation. It needs the employer and the employee to have a medical aid that would suit the industry since it is a self-productive business. Two medical aids were presented to the association during the workshop.

Limo says the association knocked on closed doors because he wants the best for the taxi industry in terms of transformation, and not to be regarded as a business ‘driven’ by blacks. “We want the taxi industry to change. This medical aid will force the employer and the employee to look after their health and that of their families. This will change the image of the industry as the whole,” says regional PRO Stoppie Mali.

Taxi drivers and their employers were given a chance to ask questions on how the medical aid would benefit them, their health and that of their families.
