Over 20 Merafong matric learners hospitalized for food poisoning

The patients come from various schools in our area and are being treated today, Thursday October 10.

A group of matric learners from high schools in the Merafong are currently being treated for food poisoning at Carletonville Hospital.

As far as could be determined, they were picked up by Gauteng EMS and taken to Carletonville Hospital at about 10:00 this morning.

Apparently, the learners, who are from various high schools in the area, attended a matric camp in the Fochville area.

As far as could be determined, more than 20 learners are being treated.

According to a source from the community the learners started feeling sick after they ate food yesterday and this morning.

“We were notified in advance that they were coming, so we were prepared for when they arrived. They are currently treated at the Casualty Section,” says the communication officer of Carletonville Hospital, Matabo Letsoalo.

This local incident followed various other food poisonings of learners in other parts of the province and country recently.
