Carletonville residents connect with Police at Coffee with a Cop event

Meet and mingle with Carletonville Police.

Residents met with police members from various units and got a better understanding of public safety issues during the second Coffee with a Cop event in Carletonville this week.
The event was held in the parking lot of Pick n Pay.

According to Carletonville SAPS Social Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Thabo Mathebula, various role players took part in the outreach.

“The day started with Netcare and ER24 showing community members the CPR procedure. The West Rand fire and rescue services showed what they do in case of a fire. The second part of the event was dialogue where stakeholders and community members discussed the importance of standing together to fight crime and how we can reduce crime in our area,” explained Mathebula.

Police members from some provincial and West Rand structures, such as the Search and Rescue and Dog Unit from Roodepoort also attended. Social crime officers and domestic violence coordinators from various units, Community Policing Forum (CPF)members and representatives of the Itlho-komeleng Batho Rehabilitation Centre (IBRC) were also present.

This organisation helps law enforcers in South Africa and Uganda develop a closer bond with the community.

According to Mathebula, more than 200 people attended the event. The police also handed out 500 pamphlets with tips on how to stay safe from crime.

Some of the attendees even made use of the opportunity to have their documents certified.
