Violent attacks at informal housing area near Carletonville

The attackers started shooting at the people who were relaxing.

Two violent attacks where several people were killed or injured happened in the informal housing area known as Mphathla Village near East Driefontein earlier this week.

Lebo’s Tavern was packed with people during the early morning hours of September 8. The relaxed vibe was shattered, however, when three men stopped nearby in a Volkwagen Polo at approximately 02:00.

The men walked up to the tavern and started shooting at the facility with handguns. One man was killed, while another 10 people were injured.

Seemingly one of the victims ran away and only realised that he had also been shot when he arrived home.

The victims were transported to Carletonville Hospital by ambulance and several were later transferred to Leratong Hospital for further treatment.

Brutal shooting claims three lives

Another shooting, that claimed the lives of three people, took place in the same informal settlement two days earlier.

Three residents were sitting outside a home enjoying some beer. Suddenly a group of about 20 Basotho men arrived.

Although the residents tried to flee, the men grabbed them and brutally shot and stabbed them. The suspects then ransacked their rooms.

Two of the victims were Lesotho nationals, while the other one is a South African.
