Police from Gauteng and North West discovered the body of 26-year-old Nomsa Jass on the R559 road near the turnoff to Blybank on Sunday night. Nomsa, a pharmacy assistant, had been kidnapped the week before.

She was last seen on August 25 when she left the pharmacy where she worked at a mall in Potchefstroom. She did not report back to work on August 26. The employer then contacted her family. The police went to her flat in Meyer Street in Potchefstroom, but could not find her or her vehicle (a charcoal Volkswagen Polo).

She was reported missing on August 27. On August 28, police recovered her abandoned vehicle parked in a parking area at the Daveyton Mall close to Benoni.

According to a trusted source, the police received information about where Nomsa’s body had been dumped. They discovered it about 50m from the R559 road close to the turnoff to Blybank.

They also arrested a resident of the Potchefstroom area in connection with the murder.
The accused, Sinethembe Mabaso (a 29-year-old Mozambican), appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and vehicle theft on Tuesday. The case was postponed to September 16.

“The suspect was arrested and charged with kidnapping, robbery and murder. Investigations into the matter, including the search for the other suspect, is underway,” says communication officer of the police in North West, Colonel Adele Myburgh.

The police in Potchefstroom last week asked for help from the public to locate Jass.

The provincial police commissioners of North West and Gauteng, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena and Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, welcomed Mabaso’s arrest and applauded the police members who arrested him.

They said that they will make sure that justice will prevail.

Nomsa’s body was discovered in the veld close to the railway tracks near the Blybank turnoff on the R559 road, known to residents as the Bank Road.
