Drugs and knives found at school in Carletonville

They are making sure that the safety of learners comes first.

Members of the police and other law enforcement agencies found a variety of illegal goods at a school in Carletonville this week.

The Carletonville SAPS Social Crime Prevention Officer, Seargant Thabo Mathebula, says they held a community outreach and school safety programme on August 20.

The Social Crime Prevention, the Department of Community Safety, Carletonville CPF patrollers, Youth Desk Crime Prevention, the NGO A Re Ageng social service, the Department of Social Services and the Bambisandla Sam Centre of Excellence took part in the activities.

“The team started the day by visiting Wonderfontein High School to conduct a school search, making sure the school is safe for learners,” says Mathebula.

Police and CPF members searched the school grounds and about 250 learners and found various illegal goods.

These included two dangerous Okapi knives, eight hand-rolled cannabis cigarettes, plain cannabis and cookies filled with cannabis.

Afterwards the team went to the Wonderfontein smallholdings, where they went door-to-door to raise awareness about issues regarding gender-based violence and substance abuse. They also handed out 180 pamphlets with tips about staying safe from crime to these residents.
