Faded road markings in Carletonville fixed after article

This had been a problem for a long time.

Despite the fact that the Merafong City Local Municipality has repainted traffic signs in various streets, some important stop streets have still not received attention.

A resident of the town, Dirk van der Walt, complained in May that the failure to paint basic traffic signs on the streets around one of Carletonville’s primary schools puts the lives of children and other road users at risk. By August 12 the municipality has still not painted stop signs on the road at the intersections of Vaal and Umgeni and Vaal and Vlei Street. At the corner at Umgeni Street, which is right in front of the school, there was no stop sign on the sidewalk either.

Meanwhile the ward councillor in the Carletonville Extension 9 area, Carlos Rebelo, also complained that there are no stop signs on the road at the T-junction of Baard and Grundling Street. This crossing becomes very busy at times as Baard Street is one of only two streets leading into this residential area, while Grundling Street is one of the busy main routes leading into the town from the area of Khutsong and Welverdiend.

After the Herald asked the municipality about the problem, they quickly attended to the issue and sent photos as proof that they actually did the work.
