He has a wide variety of influences.

Lesego Mokone is a 22-year-old young man from Khutsong, who is very passionate about art, with a dream to make the world a better place with his work.

He grew up with a love for drawing. When he was young, his mother never had pictures of him so he wanted to visualise himself through his drawings.
He then started drawing himself and family members.

After completing matric, he realised his passion for art. He then began exploring it as a way of passing time when he was bored. Lesego developed an interest to learn further and to grow his skills by making use of YouTube.

“I began working and raising funds for materials at a local carwash,” he said.

The artist studied Human Resource Management as a back-up and completed the course last year December – he only has to finish practicals in order to graduate.

He mentioned that as an artist his aim is to change the world with his art as he feels that the world is a dark place with many negative activities such as alcohol, drug abuse and crime.

So, through his art he wants to add colour to the world by using his work as a strong voice.

His vision is to become an art curator and a well-respected artist and he wants to have his own gallery.

He also mentioned that there are different styles of art such as Renaissance, abstract, digital, Surrealism, Realism, Impressionism as well as Expressionism that expresses various emotions using specific colours.
He is living through his art and it has become his life.

He has also been learning about art history by reading books as well as researching online about Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent Van Gogh. His main inspiration in the art industry is Salvador Dali from Spain who uses Surrealism.

He wants to offer a clothing customisation service in order to make a living and added that in order to make money with art you must have a strong voice and unique style to attract and engage the audience.

“My message to the youth would be that they should do something positive and discover their strengths. They must also do introspection by taking time to think about their lives,” he further expressed.

He would like to urge the community that they should be supportive of one another in order to give the talented people the opportunity to emerge and prosper.
