These patrollers volunteer to make our towns a safer place for everyone to live in.

A special operation led to various drugs being found at the Carletonville taxi rank over the weekend.

According to the Secretary of the Carletonville Community Policing Forum (CPF), Wena du Plessis the action started at 11:00 on July 27. CPF crime wardens, patrollers who are part of the Gauteng Department of Community Safety’s ongoing Operation Siyabangena, and members of the local security company Gladiator took part in the action.

The group continued searching the taxi rank until the operation concluded at 14:00.

Although it is never certain what will be found, this operation yielded big success.

The searchers found 70 packets of crystal meth, 49 packets of crashed crystal and 67 packets of the drug nyaope. They also confiscated 30 whole mandrax tablets as well as 27 half mandrax tablets.

The group also confiscated illegal bullets and a pistol magazine as well as various other illegal items.

According to the website WebMD, Methamphetamine more commonly known as crystal meth is an illegal, highly addictive and dangerous drug and potent central nervous system stimulant.

The illegal and equally dangerous drug Methaqualone, commonly known as mandrax, is a hypnotic sedative. Nyaope is a street drug, which is a mixture of low-grade heroin, cannabis products, antiretroviral drugs and other materials, according to ScienceDirect.com.

According to the South African Depression and Anxiety Support Group (SADAG), the other substances in nyaope can include sugar, baby powder, washing powder and even bicarbonate of soda.

“Thank you to everyone who was involved, including Anton Botha of Gladiator. The taxi associations in the area also assisted,” said Du Plessis.

This illegal pistol magazine and bullets were also confiscated.
