Fochville bowlers on the go

The Fochville Bowls Club is one of the most active sports clubs in our area.

Fochville Bowling Club had their men’s and ladies’ pairs championship recently.

According to the club’s spokesperson, Martin van Bosch, the event was held on the weekend of 15 and 16 June.

“We witnessed an electrifying lawn bowls tournament that tested the mettle of every participant. With two sections of five teams each in the men’s section, and a round robin in the women’s section, the competition promised to be a fierce battle to the very end,” says Van Bosch.

The Men’s Section 1 was dominated by the formidable duo of Gert Venter and Martin van Bosch, whose brutal force and precision left their opponents in awe.

Meanwhile, Men’s Section 2 was a thrilling arena featuring the reigning and defending club champions, Francois van der Merwe and Jody Standing, as well as the seasoned veteran pair of Abrie Schutte and Angus MacDonald.

The Ladies Section on day one was dominated by Genevieve van Bosch and Wilna van der Merwe, winning all three their games going into the second day of competition. They gave it their best on day two but lost their final game earning them the silver medal.

In the end Martin van Bosch and Gert Venter walked off with the gold medals in the Men’s category. Chris Schutte Chris Schutte and Frikkie Duvenhage took the silver while Francois van der Merwe and Jody Standing won bronze medals.

In the Ladies’ category Alida Rossouw and Wena Labuschagne scooped up the gold medals. Genevieve van Bosch and Wilna Van Der Merwe won the silver medals and Vanessa Meyer and Beryl van der Merwe took the bronze medals.

Alida Rossouw and Wena Labuschagne are the Women’s champions.
Vanessa Meyer and Beryl van der Merwe took bronze.
Francois van der Merwe and Jody Standing won bronze medals.
Genevieve van Bosch and Wilna Van Der Merwe won the silver medals.
Chris Schutte and Frikkie Duvenhage took the silver.
