Two arrested after murder

The victim has not yet been identified.

The owner of an illegal tavern and his wife were arrested after an unusual incident in the area over the weekend.

The police in Carletonville are investigating cases of murder and defeating the ends of justice after this incident on the night of Saturday, 15 June.

As far as could be determined, a visitor to an illegal tavern in Phomolong village near East Driefontein was shot two times inside the tavern at about 20:00. Everyone else at the tavern ran away.

The suspect, the tavern owner and his wife then allegedly proceeded to carry the dead man from the home and dump him in a nearby veld. They also cleaned the scene where he was shot.

The owner of the tavern only reported the case to the police at 12:00 the next day.

Detectives, however, soon determined what had really happened and arrested the tavern owner (56) and his wife (49) for defeating the ends of justice and murder.

The man who had shot the victim had not yet been arrested by printing time, while police were also still trying to determine the victim’s identity.
